On Tuesday, 26 November, 13 schools – including SPGS, Harrodian, and both Tiffin Schools – gathered at SPS to compete in a heat of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Top of the Bench competition. Each school brought a team of four pupils. Representing ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ’s were Kevin Lu and Leo Bauer (Fourth Form), Ari Pissioti Capriello (Fifth Form), and Jake Hope (Sixth Form). All pupils underwent multiple rounds of selection, involving theory papers and practical challenges, to earn their place on the team.
The competition itself consisted of 75 minutes of additional theory and practical challenges. The SPS team emerged as the overall winner, narrowly beating City of London School by a few points. We now await the results of other regional heats to learn if SPS has qualified for the national finals.
Thanks are owed to Adavya Goyal (Lower Eighth), Leon Ryan Adams, Aditya Coondapoor, and James Williams (Upper Eighth), who generously gave their time to guide visitors, act as lab demonstrators, and assist with marking.
